"Warp and Whorl (Erfoud)," by Chieko Murasugi, 2026
Multiplied Projects is pleased to present two new editions by Chieko Murasugi: “Warp and Whorl (London)” and “Warp and Whorl (Erfoud).” These works continue Murasugi’s ongoing exploration of chance and order - a dialogue also central to her 2026 painting series, “Deuce.”
Working with master printer Doug Bennett, Murasugi developed two scripted algorithms to govern color and composition. For the palette, she drew on her own photography: images from travels in Europe and Africa informed the specific color sensibility of each piece, with a random selection of warm and cool tones assigned to fill the arcs and stripes within the composition.
Order enters through a pattern of vertical stripes embedded in the background, which at times rises to overtake the concentric rings above it. Chance is introduced by a second script, which plots two random points along each ring and draws an arc between them.
Both works are published as variable editions. The background and intermediate layers remain consistent across each print, while the final layer of arcs is unique to every impression.
“Warp and Whorl (Erfoud)” is an original collaboration published by Multiplied Projects. A pigment-based inkjet print measuring 10.5 × 18 inches, it was printed using an EPSON Surecolor P700 with Ultrachrome inks. An edition of 10 with 1 AP and 1 PP was signed, dated and numbered by the artist.
